Dawnland Voices: An Anthology of Indigenous Writing from New England by Siobhan Senier, ed.
Although it is a decade old, this book has become my go-to compendium of Indigenous writing from the region we call New England. Representing many tribes and nations, from the Miqmac of present-day northern Maine and the Maritimes to the Schaghticoke of present-day northwestern Connecticut and adjacent New York, the collection spans a range of geographies and cultural histories. The collection includes writing from dozens of indviduals, including Joseph Bruchac, who is featured in this issue. Historical accounts, stories, and poems, along with writer biographies and a list of information sources, fill a luscious 690 pages.
