Purposeful Empathy by Anita Nowak

“Are you concerned about the direction the world is heading and that we’re running out of time to get things right? Have you started to notice the common thread among racism, climate change, wealth inequality, mental illness, addiction, and loneliness?” Purposeful Empathy by Anita Nowak raises these questions and more in the context of a polarized world where self interest today is too often prized over community interest tomorrow. What I enjoyed about this book is its use of stories and research across many disciplines to shine a light on the causes and effects of the complex challenges we face. Equal parts cautionary and hopeful, Nowak encourages individuals, leaders, and organizations to intentionally tap into their innate capacity for empathy to change direction.
