Elizabeth Downer Riker
About the Artist
Elizabeth Downer Riker is a Brooklyn-based artist. She studied painting at the Art Students League in Manhattan.
Elizabeth lived for many years in the Central Valleys region of Oaxaca, Mexico where she painted people working the land. On her return to New York in 2011, she began a series of paintings of rooftop farms and community gardens to celebrate the greening of cities.
In her paintings, Elizabeth hopes to express the timelessness of people’s connection to the earth, something that for many has been lost. Through her art, she wants to convey the necessity of finding harmony in this relationship once more.
Elizabeth has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. She is represented by Ceres Gallery and is an artist member of the Salmagundi Club. She can be reached at ebdriker@gmail.com. Learn more at elizabethdownerriker.com.
